I think it is so beautiful and wonderful that Amherst's chorus will be performing at Maurita's memorial this Saturday. Maurita always loved to sing, and this is probably one of the best ways to pay tribute to this magnificent person, by having something she was so proud to be a part of, to be performing at her memorial. I continue to send my thoughts and prayers to all the other victims and family members of the victims who were lost in this horrific tragedy. We will never forget them. Peace be to all.

I pray for Maurita, wherever she is now... may God be with her. I pray so dearly for her family and friends, and her uncle who is missing as well. Maurita was a wonderful, brilliant, talented person that I feel so privileged to have met and gone to elementary and junior high school with. I also send out my thoughts and prayers to all the other victims of this horrific tragedy, and to all that are suffering now. Let's fight for peace and justice in our world.

My prayers are with Maurita and with those who are still waiting to hear. For our selfish sakes, I hope they are alive and safe somewhere, but wherever they are, let them be at peace. These are the words of the Gayatri Mantra: Om, bhur bhuvasya Tatva savitur, varenang, bharga devasya dheemayee, dheeyoyana, prachodayat, Om. Loosely translated: O Universe, let me become one with you and the Eternal, Infinite Spirit.

Dear God, Thank you for the community of support that you have provided here at Amherst, and the care and concern for one another that is being evidenced daily. Maurita is still missing, and I ask that you bless her, and her family and friends with endurance of spirit, strength of heart, and eventual peace.

Thursday, September 13 2001, 09:50 pm
My thoughts go out to all in the Amherst community who were directly affected by this week's tragedy. When I woke up in California to the pictures of the planes going through the Trade Center, I immediately thought of all of my fellow Amherst classmates who could be in that building and I was filled with sadness for all of those lives cut so bitterly short.

I recently came across some words from Dr. Martin Luther King and wanted to share them with you. "We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

Sending my love and hopes from the West.

Along with my heartfelt thoughts for the victims and their loved ones, I pray that our national leaders may have the clarity and the wisdom to fashion an appropriate response, and one that will effectively reduce the risk that such tragedies will happen again.

Thursday, September 13 2001, 02:28 pm
Please also keep in your thoughts and prayers the thousands of people that are working around the clock in dangerous conditions to find the missing: so many police, firemen, medical personnel and rescue workers who are digging, searching, and hoping against hope, refusing to quit, with no concern for their own safety or physical/emotional exhaustion.
